Valentine's Day Marketing| Adventure Marketing

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or Singles Awareness Day, February 14th is full of emotion. Which means on the business side of things, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to connect with consumers through thoughtful marketing strategies.

So you’re scrambling for last minute ideas, right? Well, you’re not the only one! Thankfully, we have you covered (for now). We’ve compiled our favorite past Valentine’s Day marketing ads for you to use as inspiration, so that your business can get in on some last minute Valentine’s Day action.

  1. T-Mobile

T-Mobile’s creative marketing campaign is the perfect example of strategic marketing. They asked customers to write a break-up letter to their previous mobile providers, explaining why they left them for T-Mobile.

Through this campaign, they were able to gather information on competitors, pin-point their customers pain-points and create user-generated content. T-Mobile will be able to use this information to improve their overall marketing strategies and get a leg up on competitors.

  1. Snickers– “You’re Forgetful When You’re Hungry.”

Snickers isn’t too busy saving the world from hunger to miss out on a good Valentine’s Day campaign. Although Snickers is not forgetful, they’ve capitalized on the fact that most people are. Thankfully, they’ve come to the rescue, like they always do.

The strategy behind this campaign is genius. The ad agency who rolled out this creative campaign, chose to do so on the busiest street in the country. Which means, the word “forgetful” is probably very relatable to the passer-byers in the area. Especially on Valentine’s Day! They pushed the creativity envelope by creating an interactive billboard that was useful for consumers, giving them something to hold onto as they left. Snickers will forever be there Valentine’s Day hero.

  1. Uber– Romance On Demand

For Valentine’s Day, the on-demand car service doubled as an on-demanded flower delivery service, #RomanceOnDemand. Users could use the Romance On Demand feature in the app to have a bouquet of red roses delivered to their desired location. An Uber driver, dressed to the nines, would show up at the location and hand-deliver the bouquet.

Uber spent very little money on this campaign. In fact, they made profits from it by charging customers $100 for their Romance On Demand service. They were smart in the way that they used their existing service and found a way to take it to a new level and differentiate it on Valentine’s Day.

  1. Tiffany & Co. – Drop A Hint

Do you have trouble picking out the perfect gift for your loved one like I do? Tiffany & Co. took the guessing game out of the playing field with this campaign! The luxury jewelry company created a button on their website that allowed users to send a personalized email to someone and “drop a hint” of what they would like for Valentine’s Day.

The marketing genius in this campaign is the ease in how they collected emails. With each “hint” that went out, they gathered two new emails. Data from 2018 shows that email marketing is one of the most effective and cost efficient behavioral marketing channels. There are numerous email marketing strategies that you can use to connect with your customers and drive sales.

  1. Ikea

If you’re thinking to yourself, “My product is not Valentine’s Day related; therefore, I don’t need a Valentine’s Day advertisement,” you’re missing out! Having a product that is unrelated to the holiday, can make it stand out in the crowd of the cliché products.

Ikea used creative product placement to create this cheeky ad for Valentine’s Day, noting more. They stayed true to their brand image with their minimalist aesthetic and kept the ad very simple. Yet, it stands out amongst the sea of chocolate, flowers, and jewelry ads.

The National Retail Federation estimates that 19.6 billion dollars will be spent on Valentine’s Day this year. Take advantage of this time of year and roll out some kind of Valentine’s Day marketing for your business. We hope these Valentine’s Day marketing campaigns gave you the creative inspiration you need to implement one of your own.
